Prestariang Bhd, which debuts on Bursa Malaysia today has secured an RM80mil contract from the Higher Education Ministry for an industry-based certification scheme. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Prestariang said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd, had secured the contract from the Government to provide professional information, communications and technologies (ICT) training and certification of ICT and ICT-related fields in public higher education institutions in Malaysia.

PeterLabs executive director Dr Teo Kooi Cheng said the company had begun exporting its products now that it had appointed official distributors in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. “The local market is already mature as our market share for animal feed additives is 19.1%. The focus for us now is overseas expansion,” Teo told reporters after the listing ceremony yesterday. Last year, PeterLabs poster net profit of RM5.9mil on revenue of RM40.7mil. The company expects a 15% to 20% growth this year with 5% of it coming from exports.

Sarawak Cable Bhd has formed a strategic partnership with power and automation technologies company ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd to submit a tender for Sarawak’s Samajaya substation to be implemented by Sarawak Energy Bhd. The proposed joint venture – Sarawak Cable Bhd-ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd – was entered into yesterday via a consortium agreement and a supplemental consortium agreement.

Uzma Bhd's subsidiary, Uzma Engineering Sdn Bhd (UESB), has secured a contract worth RM170mil from Petronas Carigali Bhd. In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, Uzma said the contract was for the provision of integrated equipment and services for idle well reactivation project. The contract period will be three years effective from July 25.

TELEKOM MALAYSIA BHD []’s unit has placed out 92.36 million Axiata Group Bhd at RM5.07 a share. The exercise raised gross proceeds of RM468.3 million for TM.

Alam Maritim’s unit has received a letter of award from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd to provide one anchor handling tug supply vessel for RM10.6 million. The contract  started on July 13 and the duration is for a primary period of 150 days with two  extension options of 45 days each.

Berjaya Food Bhd is expanding its Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR) brand into Indonesia after it inked a joint venture (JV) agreement with three Indonesian companies to develop and operate the franchise. It had entered into a conditional JV agreement with PT Mitra Samaya (MS), PT Harapan Swasti Sentosa (HSS) and PT Boga Lestari Sentosa (PT Boga) to operate the franchise in Java island and Bali, Indonesia under PT Boga.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has bought more than 200,000 tonnes of fuel oil, for delivery between April and August, in addition to buying electricity from Singapore utility PowerSeraya, industry sources said yesterday. The fuel oil volumes were the largest TNB has purchased in at least five years, traders said, and were linked to natural gas supply disruptions that resulted from the maintenance shutdown of gas production platforms owned by state oil company Petronas. The first 15,000 tonnes is for Aug 1–3 delivery to the Sultan Iskandar Power Station in Pasir Gudang. Two more lots of 20,000 and 30,000 tonnes are for delivery to Kapar in Selangor in August

Integrated steel contractor Eversendai Corp Bhd plans to double its order book this year to RM3bil, on expectations of new projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Saudi Arabia and India.  Group managing director Datuk A.K. Nathan said the group was already in serious negotiations for some of the jobs related to infrastucture, power plants and high rise buildings. “We are pursuing quite a fair amount of jobs this year and I think we should not have any problem to secure about RM1bil to RM1.5bil worth of new jobs based on our good track record all this while,” he told reporters yesterday at a media briefing after the official launch of the group's initial public offering (IPO) prospectus.

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd is bidding for RM400mil to RM500mil worth of contracts in offshore installation and construction (OIC) as well as offshore support vessel (OSV) services sector, said managing director and chief executive officer Azmi Ahmad. However, Azmi said the success rate was quite difficult to predict under the prevailing market environment although the company's historical success rate was at 10% to 22%.

Gamuda Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd have entered into a joint venture (JV) for the pre-qualifying and tendering works in relation to the underground work package for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit project. In separate announcements to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, both companies said they would each have a 50% stake in the JV. “The breakdown of the total capital, investment outlay and the eventual issued and paid-up capital of the JV will be according to the proportion of interest of each party and could only be determined when the JV is successfully awarded the underground work package of the project,” they said.
Both companies said they planned to finance their respective portions of investments via their own funds and/or borrowings.

HPI Resources Bhd has received a takeover offer from Japan's Oji Paper Co Ltd to acquire all of the former's 58.528 million shares for RM257.52mil or RM4.40 per share. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the corrugated packaging manufacturer said it had received the notice of the conditional take-over offer from RHB Investment Bank on behalf of Oji Paper's wholly-owned subsidiary, Oji Paper Asia Sdn Bhd. “The board has deliberated on the offer and does not intend to seek an alternate person to make a take-over for the offer shares,” the company said. The offer price of RM4.40 represents a premium of 47 sen or 12% over its last traded price of RM3.93.

Trading of shares in ACE Market-listed Ecofuture Bhd will be suspended from June 23 as it failed to appoint a replacement sponsor by designated June 10 deadline. The Guidance Note 3 company could also potentially be delisted on June 27 unless an appeal is submitted to Bursa Malaysia by June 22. Ecofuture was unable to appoint a replacement sponsor within three months after its then sponsor ECM Libra Investment Bank Bhd tendered its resignation on March 10.

Equine Capital, which had fallen from the radar screen in recent years, is trying to make a company through its property venture. It is launching a mixed commercial and residential freehold development project -- da:mén -- or “Great Door) in USJ, Subang Jaya which is near the Summit shopping mall and hotel. It promises to offer a distinctively unique retail and dining experience with lifestyle pleasures for the urbanites. The company has also returned to the black in the financial year ended March 31, 2011. In the fourth quarter ended March 31, it reported net profit of RM2.25 million compared with net loss of RM25.57 million a year ago. For the 12-months, its net profit was RM6.37 million compared with net loss of RM36.43 million a year ago. However, its cashflow was enhanced following proceeds from disposal of investment property totaling for RM28 million. Its cash and cash equivalents at end of the financial year was only RM6.4 million

Unisem expects the current financial year ending Dec 31, 2011 to be lacklustre due to tough economic environment in major markets. Group managing director John Chia said Unisem’s financial results in FY 2011 was unlikely to be better than the previous year's numbers due to a tougher economic environment in the US, Europe, Japan and China, apart from the weakening of the US dollar. "Our capital expenditure this year will be less than FY10 capex of some RM380 million" Chia said at Unisem's shareholders meeting.

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) will be making a proposal to acquire RHB Capital Bhd before the end of this month, according to Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor. He said Maybank would proceed with the acquisition only if it was earnings accretive. Megat Zaharuddin said a merger with RHB Capital Bhd would provide scale to Maybank. “For example, it would expand our reach in Thailand and Singapore. Scale is important, especially when you are trying to compete in a region which is becoming a lot more challenging. We have global players from other parts of the world which are focusing on this part of the world, and you need scale in order to compete,” he said after Maybank EGM yesterday.

Malaysian property developer SP Setia Bhd plans to increase its landbank in Australia, predominantly in popular cities such as Melbourne, Sydney and even Gold Coast, as it seeks to capture the growing opportunities from the population boom of these cities. Having made its first Australian investment last year, the developer is in the midst of scouting for more investment opportunities in Melbourne. “For the first few years, we are looking for investment opportunities and to take on projects that will provide quick turnaround and are easy sell. Subsequently, we will look at greenfield projects and (at building) townships,” Setia (Melbourne) Development Co Pty Ltd chief executive officer Choong Kai Wai told Malaysian reporters here last Friday.

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd (AMRB) has been awarded a contract valued at RM52mil from Samsung Engineering Malaysia Sdn Bhd. The contract, awarded to its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alam Maritim (M) Sdn Bhd, was for the purchase order from Samsung to supply engineering work, supply of materials, fabrication, load-out and commissioning of two units of single point mooring buoy for Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal project.

Silver Bird Group Bhd has proposed a private placement exercise of new ordinary shares of up to 10% of its issued and paid-up share capital. The actual proceeds to be raised from this would be dependent on the issue price and actual number of placements shares to be issued. The company, in its filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, said the said proceeds from the proposed private placement should be utilised for repayment of bank borrowings as well as to defray the expenses in respect of the proposed private placement.
The group's total outstanding borrowings stood at RM130mil as of June 6.

MMC Corp Bhd’s subsidiary Malakoff Corporation Bhd is set to build a 1,000MW coal-fired plant next to the current Tanjung Bin power plant. The company said it had accepted a conditional offer made by the government to develop the plant and the expected commercial operation date was March 1, 2016. Malakoff is MMC Corp’s 51%-owned subsidiary, whose unit Tanjung Bin Power Sdn Bhd owns the Tanjung Bin power plant. MMC Corp said among the conditions in the offer by the government via the Energy Commission were the finalisation of the terms of the agreements relating to the project; and the approval of the detailed environmental impact assessment from the Department of Environment Malaysia.

Sime Darby's healthcare division is investing RM280 million in two hospital projects in the Klang Valley as part of the government’s health tourism plan under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The conglomerate said it would invest in a 220-bed Sime Darby Medical Centre Ara Damansara in Subang which will be operational by the third quarter of 2011. The 300-bed Sime Darby Medical Centre ParkCity will be operational by the second half of 2012.

KNM’s total book order rose to RM5.5 billion as at May this year, of which RM1.4 billion in orders were secured in 2010. Bulk of the orders was secured in the second half of last year, totaling RM3.10 billion. The remaining RM1 billion of orders were secured in the first half of 2010 and earlier. As at January this year it had tendered for RM16 billion of orders and based on a 20% success rate, that would translate into RM3.2 billion.

MWE has attracted attention after it disclosed that it bought RM98.12 million of quoted securities from Sept 2, 2010 to June 10 this year. It said the total cost represented 24.74% of MWE group's net assets as at Dec 31, 2010. As at June 10, the total cost of its acquisitions was RM121.08 million while the book value was RM203.84 million. This was an increase of RM82.76 million but MWE did not provide details of those quoted securities.

Sime Darby posted net profit of RM820.12 million in the third quarter ended March 31, 2011 compared with net loss of RM308.63 million a year ago. Revenue increased by 39.8pct to RM10.59 billion compared with RM7.57 billion. Earnings per share were 13.66 sen.

Land & General posted losses of RM3.22 million in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2011 compared  with net profit of RM12.91 million a year ago mainly due to losses in quoted investments. “The loss for the current quarter arose mainly due to  fair value loss of RM3.5 million recognised on its quoted investments, net interest expenses of RM1.1 million recognised from FRS 139 implementation, and share of losses from its jointly controlled entities of RM1.7 million,” it said.

Alam Maritim posted net losses of RM7.38 million on weaker performance by it offshore support vessels segment. Net loss for 1Q ended March 31, 2011 was a stark contrast of RM20.51 million a year ago.
Revenue fell 48% to RM34.68 million from RM66.87 million. Loss per share was 0.9 sen compared with earnings per share of 4.0 sen.

Kulim’s earnings jumped 105% to RM127.10 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2011 (1QFY11) from RM61.89 million a year ago. Its revenue climbed 34% to RM1.657 billion from RM1.234 billion while earnings per share were 10.12 sen compared with 16.40 sen a year ago.

IJM Corp swung into the red in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2011 with net loss of RM20.19 million versus a net profit of RM111.04 million a year ago due to its overseas operations. The losses were expected by the market as it would have to make provisions and losses in its international operations. Its operating profit before tax fell by 53.9% to RM75 million compared to RM163 million a year ago “following the provision made against contractual claims, recovery of receivables and project losses in some of the group’s overseas projects”. Its revenue rose 20.9% to RM1.047 billion from RM866.46 million mainly due to the CONSTRUCTION [], property, industry and infrastructure divisions. It announced an interim dividend of 7.0 sen a share.

KUB Malaysia Bhd, a telecommunications services provider, fell to its lowest level in more than two months after posting a first-quarter loss of RM5.04 million. The stock slid 2.1 per cent to 69.5 sen at 9:09 a.m. local time in Kuala Lumpur trading, set for its lowest close since March 18.

Malayan Flour Mills Bhd proposed a share split and special dividend of 62 sen per share, according to a company statement in Kuala Lumpur today. The company also proposed to raise as much as RM200.2 million from a rights offer, it said.

Bernas, which is the largest rice miller in Malaysia, has received a 10-year extension from Jan 11, 2011 to Jan 10, 2021 from the federal government. Bernas had received a letter dated April 20 from the Public Private Partnership Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department on the extension of the Bernas agreement dated Jan 12, 1996. It currently controls about 24% of the padi market and 45% of the local rice demand.

CB Industrial Product Bhd’s unit has secured a RM38.35 million contract from the Ministry of Health to supply 100 ambulances inclusive medical equipment to the ministry. Its subsidiary AVP Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd had accepted the letter of award from the Ministry of Health.

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd’s unit has entered into two charter party agreements for a total sum of RM24.75 million.

Berjaya Land Bhd’s units disposed of 22.76 million BERJAYA SPORTS TOTO BHD [] (BToto) shares for RM101.821 million or at an average selling price of RM4.47. It said on Monday, April 25 the shares were disposed of by Immediate Capital Sdn Bhd and Gateway Benefit Sdn Bhd in the open market from May 3, 2010 to April 25, 2011. “The disposals resulted in a net loss of about RM6.07 million at the BLand group level,” it said. The disposed shares represented 1.70% equity interests in BToto.

DRB-HICOM Bhd will be using three of its main businesses involving banking, cargo handling and insurance to generate value from its 32.21% stake in Pos Malaysia Bhd. Those three companies are expected to feature heavily in the execution of the business plan for Pos Malaysia which in turn will also benefit DRB-HICOM as reinvigorating Pos Malaysia would lead to the expansion of the businesses involving Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, KL Airport Services Sdn Bhd (KLAS) and Uni.Asia (life and general insurance businesses). DRB-HICOM won the bid last week to buy the controlling stake in Pos Malaysia at RM3.60 per share or RM622.79mil.

China Construction Bank Corp (CCB), the country's No 2 lender, is eyeing a stake in EON Capital, and has approached the Malaysian Finance Ministry for permission to speak to EON's major shareholders, a source with direct knowledge said. “This is still at a very early stage. We've informed the Malaysian Finance Ministry,” said the source, adding that CCB had not yet received a response. The source declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the deal.

Software provider Infortech Alliance Bhd has proposed to acquire the entire interest in Jaring Metal Industries Sdn Bhd for RM64.8mil, which will see it gaining new controlling shareholders via the issuance of Infortech shares. Infortech told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that the total purchase would be satisfied by the issuance of 462.86 million new 10 sen shares in Infortech at 14 sen each. Infortech is also proposing a renounceable restricted issue of up to 181.5 million Infortech shares together with up to 108.9 million free detachable warrants on the basis of five shares with three free warrants for every two existing Infortech shares held by the entitled shareholders of Infortech other than the vendors and the parties acting in concert (PACs) with the vendors.

Sime Darby Bhd’s unit, Sime Darby Engineering Sdn Bhd, has been awarded a RM1.15bn contract to fabricate KBB Topsides for the Kebabangan northern hub development project by Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd. The contract will be undertaken over 29 months effective from April 22 this year, Sime Darby said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd's Vice President, KFC Division, Lim Teck Huak said the company invested more than RM1mn in advertising and promotion for the new menu which would be initially available at the 144 outlets. One hundred and forty-four KFC restaurants throughout Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, will see sales increase by 10% after the introduction of its redesigned breakfast menu.
 
WCT Bhd announced a final dividend of 5sen per share which makes the total dividend declared for FYE2010 10sen per share. This final dividend will be paid on 6 June 2011.

MAHB is expecting to see 12% year-on-year growth in passengers for the first three months of the year, compared with the earlier forecast of 7%.

MAMEE-DOUBLE Decker (M) Bhd has been in the limelight recently due to a privatisation proposal by major shareholders in a selective capital reduction (SCR) and repayment exercise under Section 64 of the Companies Act, 1965. This is a privatisation route that has been used successfully by several other companies.

Plantation group KL Kepong Bhd has estimated its capital expenditure for the current financial year ending Sept 30, 2011 at RM600mil. It said the expenditure consisted of new oil palm plantings in Indonesia and supporting infrastructures such as palm oil mills. “Oleochemicals capital expenditure consist of adding new capacities at Westport, Europe and China,” KL Kepong said in its corporate presentation at the Invest Malaysia 2011 conference yesterday. Between financial year 2007 and 2010, about 95% of KL Kepong’s capital expenditure was invested in plantation and oleochemicals. The company also said that it would continue to focus on land acquisition in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd’s unit has secured RM24.24 million contracts to supply two vessels to an independent oil and gas exploration and production company. Its unit Alam Maritim (M) Sdn Bhd would provide one anchor handling tug supply vessel and one fast multipurpose supply vessel.

MEGB, its group CEO and PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk (PTSA) are teaming up to look into the setting up of a university in Indonesia. They will form a joint venture company in Indonesia with proposed paid-up capital of US$10 million wherein. MEGB and its CEO will each hold a 30% stake and the remaining 60% by PTSA. PTSA is listed on the Stock Exchange of Indonesia and is the owner of Mayapada Hospital in Indonesia.

DRB-Hicom Bhd’s unit Puspakom Sdn Bhd has signed an MoU with the government to undertake the hire purchase inspection services for all vehicles. DRB-Hicom said the inspection services would be undertaken following the implementation of the newly amended Hire-Purchase Act 1967 (Amended 2010).

MALAYSIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM BHD []’s (MAS) earnings in the first quarter ended March 31, 2011 were impacted by the higher fuel prices, said its managing director and chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said. He said the high fuel price is “definitely making a negative impact on us”. Tengku Azmil said about 25% of the airline’s jet fuel for 2011 was hedged at US$90 per barrel but the price was now about US$140. On April 1, it was US$136.40.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the government's investment arm, has decided on the potential buyer for its 32.21 per cent stake in postal service provider, POS MALAYSIA BHD. "We already have a winner in mind," said Khazanah managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar. However, he declined to narrow the identity of the "winner" but said the names would be submitted to the board later this month. The three shortlisted bidders are speculated to be DRB-Hicom, NATIONWIDE EXPRESS COURIER SER vices and a Amanah REIT-Malaysia Pacific Corp joint venture, wit offers ranging between RM3.38 and RM4.62 per share. The other two bidders were Scomi Bhd and TRICUBES BHD.

Guocoland Bhd posted net loss of RM3.64 million in the third quarter ended March 31, 2011, which was narrower compared with net losses of RM5.65 million a year ago. It reported revenue of RM23.95 million, down from RM42.42 million a year ago. Loss per share was 0.54 sen compared with 0.84 sen. For the nine-months, its net loss was RM2.38 million compared with net profit of RM2.49 million in the previous corresponding period. Revenue was RM84.29 million versus RM130.49 million a year ago. Its net asset per share was RM1.12. According to the notes to the accounts, it had short-term and long-term borrowings of RM786 million as at March 31, 2011.

Guan Chong Bhd is allocating about RM120 million to build its cocoa-grinding plant in Batam, Indonesia. The plant, with an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes, will more than double the company's grinding capacity to 200,000 tonnes from 80,000 tonnes.

Alam Maritim Resources Bhd has been awarded an extension of contract to provide one accommodation work barge for about RM70.52 million. The contract extension is for 21 months from April 12, 2011 to January 2013, with a further option to extend for an additional year. Alam Maritim said the contract sum of about RM70.52 million included costs of catering, lodging and crane hire.

Mulpha International Bhd, which reported a 10-fold increase in its net profits for its financial year ended Dec 31, 2010 (FY10), will likely be paring down its debts by at least RM300mil this year, according to executive chairman Lee Seng Huang. He says Mulpha will also be continuing with share buybacks. Its latest financial results show that Mulpha has a cash and bank balance of some RM372.6mil. In addition, Mulpha will be receiving RM327mil by end-March from the sale of its Hilton Melbourne Airport Hotel, potentially raising the company's cash levels to around RM700mil or 56% of its total debt levels of RM1.24bil.

Cypark Resources Bhd, whose shares rallied on Tuesday, could see continued trading interest as investors ride on its solid waste management prospects. Cypark, had in its fourth quarter ended Oct 30, 2010 reported net profit of RM5.38 million while for the financial year, its earnings were RM20.42 million. The company had said in December, 2010 that it expected its revenue to increase as the government emphasised on solid waste management under the National Strategic Plan for Waste Management and related regulations/ initiatives.

Proton Holdings Bhd shares have fallen over the past two trading days after reporting losses due to its involvement to restructure Lotus Group International and higher branding costs. Proton adviser and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the national car maker has enough funds to inject into Lotus if necessary.mon Tuesday, Proton had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd to pave the way for feasibility studies to be conducted on specific areas of cooperation between the Parties including the potential use of Nissan's platform and powertrain.

The price of crude oil which hit US$100 per barrel recently - its first time in more than two years - is an upside risk for Malaysia as a net exporter. Some economists are raising concerns on how high oil prices, which is up on political tensions in North Africa and the Middle East, could spark a worldwide derailment of global economic growth, eroding consumers' purchasing power as prices of goods and services increase in tandem with the commodity. RAM Holdings Bhd chief economist Dr Yeah Kim Leng said at current levels of about US$100 per barrel, global growth momentum remained intact. “I think US$150 per barrel is a level when economies and companies like airlines should start worrying,” Yeah said.

Pos Malaysia Bhd’s net profit for the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 fell 59% to RM6.08mil from RM14.93mil in the previous corresponding period due to provisions for its investment in Transmile Group Bhd and a one-off impairment provision relating to capital expenditure of RM22.3mil incurred for its postal counter system.

Shares of Proton Holdings Bhd fell 23 sen to a 14-month low of RM3.86 yesterday, its lowest since Dec 22, 2009, after the national carmaker posted losses in its third quarter ended Dec 31, 2010.

KNM Group Bhd expects the company's debt levels to fall further as unit Borsig GmbH is doing better now.
KNM chief executive officer and executive chairman Lee Swee Eng said the company's overall debt levels (at RM1bil) were coming down now as Borsig was doing well. The company's plans to use Berlin-based Borsig, which was acquired in early 2008 for RM1.7bil, to expand business was somewhat derailed following the global economic recession, which saw oil prices drop as low as US$33 a barrel from over US$147.

Maxis Bhd posted net profit of RM610 million in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2010, up 21.2% from RM503 million a year ago, boosted by its non-voice segment. Its revenue rose 4.4% to RM2.31 billion from RM2.21 billion while earnings per share were 8.10 sen compared with 6.70 sen. It proposed dividend of eight sen a share to be paid on March 30. The entitlement date for the dividend payment is March 15. For the financial year ended Dec 31, 2010, it posted net profit of RM2.295 billion compared with RM1.578 billion in FY09. Maxis said its revenue for FY10 increased by 3% or RM258 million from RM8.611 billion to RM8.869 billion.

Tanjung Offshore Bhd posted net loss of RM116,000 in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 compared with net profit of RM614,000 a year ago mainly due to the provision for impairment of trade receivables deemed difficult to be recovered and bad debt written off. Its revenue was RM139.85 million versus RM136.25 million while loss per share was 0.04 sen compared with earnings per share of 0.25 sen. When compared with the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2010, it said the group’s total revenue for the current quarter of RM139.86 million was higher than the RM137.25 million in 3Q.

Time dotCom posted consolidated profit before tax of RM26.2 million, down 16.5% from RM31.4 million a year ago mainly due to lower dividend income received in the current quarter from its available-for-sale financial asset. Excluding investment income, the group’s profit from operations was RM838,000 or 8.3% higher in 4Q than a year ago. Its net profit rose 41% to RM44.37 from RM31.38 million a year ago, aided by deferred tax assets. Its revenue rose 13.7% to RM85.25 million from RM74.97 million while earnings per share were 1.75 sen.

Alam Maritim Resources swung into the red with net loss of RM49.62 million in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 and also losses of RM8.24 million in FY10. Revenue fell 56.6% to RM51.97 million from RM120.04 million a year ago while it posted net loss of RM49.62 million, a contrast from the net profit of RM36.41 million a year ago. It posted loss per share of 6.0 sen compared with earnings per share of 7.20 sen. The losses in 4Q “was mainly due to higher other operating expenses as a result of provision for doubtful debts, lower contribution margin from underwater services and the offshore installation and CONSTRUCTION [] (OIC) segment and lower share of profit of jointly controlled entities”.

Petra Perdana posted net loss of RM18.34 million in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 from net profit of RM4.05 million a year ago due to the increase in lease rental and lower charter rates. It said its revenue fell 36.6% to RM75.69 million from RM119.42 million a year ago. It recorded loss per share of 4.43 sen compared with 1.36 sen.

The federal Cabinet has agreed in principle to a revision of electricity tariff but has not decided when it should take place. Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said an electricity tariff revision was on the cards but the Government had not decided when. He said there were many issues that the Government needed to address before a time could be set for the revision.

Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd is disposing of its 40% stake in Syarikat Borcos Shipping Sdn Bhd to AWH Equity Holdings Sdn Bhd for RM135mil.

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary is believed to be considering taking auto and banking group DRB-HICOM private, people familiar with the plan said yesterday. It is further believed that the tycoon is being advised by Maybank Investment Bank on the plan, which could cost him close to RM2bn. Sources said the offer will be comparable to DRB-HICOM's NTA value, which stood at RM2.50 as at end of September this year. As at July this year, Syed Mokhtar held a controlling 55.9% of DRB-HICOM, via privately held Etika Strategi SB.

Alam Maritim Resources has seen its share price plummet on potential debt write-offs owed by Vastalux SB, a debt-ridden subsidiary of another O&G firm, Vastalux Energy. It is mulling a provision for the total debt owed by Vastalux this fiscal year and may even consider liquidating Vastalux given the remote chance of the former recovering its debt.

KFC India, a subsidiary of Kuala Lumpur-based KFC Malaysia, has been operating in India since a year, and has already opened six stores in the state of Maharashtra - four in Mumbai, one in Pune and one in Aurangabad. Proton’s subsidiary Group Lotus plc will buy a major equity stake in the Renault F1 team, which will be renamed Lotus-Renault GP team, from the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season onwards. Group Lotus will buy a 25% stake from Luxembourg-based investment group Genii Capital. The price tag was not mentioned.

Bina Puri Holdings Bhd has won a Stormwater pipeline project worth 23.99 million riyal, or about RM19.91mil, from the Saudi Arabia’s City Council of Northern Border (Turaif), through its associate company, Bina Puri Saudi Co Ltd.

Hartalega Holdings has clarified that its factory in Ijok, Kuala Selangor, has never been ordered to close, suspended, nor issued serious warnings of any kind. In a statement issued yesterday, its executive director Kuan Mun Leong categorically denied the allegations reported to have been made by Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Department Datuk T. Murugiah and some residents of Taman Suria.
